Commercial fleet provider Ryder has signed a supply agreement with Longs of Leeds, a haulier of food and paper products.

The Leeds-based haulier was founded in 1918 using horse and carts, and now has a fleet of 100 vehicles. As part of the deal, Ryder will supply 50 tractor units and 40 curtain-sided trailers. The vehicles will feature Longs’ new livery.

Andrew Long, Longs director, said the fleet featured Euro-6 compliant vehicles for the first time. He said: “The trucks also mark our first experience of Euro-6. We invested heavily in the latter stages of Euro-5 so we weren’t into Euro-6 early, allowing the technology to bend in.”

The vehicles will be based in Leeds and Hull at Longs’ depots, and will be maintained through a combination of Ryder’s and Longs’ workshops. Long said that the haulier was previously a customer of Hill Hire since before the fleet company’s acquisition by Ryder.

John Murray, Ryder sales and marketing director said: “We’re proud to support a well-known business like Longs of Leeds.

“The company is typical of an increasing number of firms in the transport and haulage sectors that are using lease options as an important part of their vehicle acquisition strategy.”
