Analysts are predicting the big German utilities companies will use leasing as a means to increase market share in the home solar panel market, according to Reuters.

The news agency reports that renewable energy is predicted to help companies such as E.ON and RWE reverse sliding market share and profits by 2017.

According to German industry body Bundesverband der Energie- und Wasserwirtschaft (BDEW), 28.5% of its domestic power demand was met by the 37 gigawatts of installed solar capacity in the country, with the remaining 71.5% met by traditional energy production.

Of the solar production, the top three German utility companies (E.ON, RWE and EnBW) own less than 1%, according to Reuters.
